Miles is 5!

Miles just recently celebrated his five year birthday and it took me back to the day that he was born. It was an unbelievably scary delivery, with far too many things going horribly wrong. I remember the nurse coming in to visit me the morning after he was born. She told me that he was a "miracle baby" and I still think about that often. I sometimes look at him and think about how much we almost missed out on, and about how much he has blessed our lives. I just can't believe he is five already.

Miles got to have two fun parties this year. The first one was held at the Museum of Ancient Life (better known as Miles' favorite place in the world, "the dinosaur museum"). He had an incredible time with all of his buddies and they all took full advantage of dinosaur mania.

Miles also got to have a small family party at our home. Grandma Kaye, Grandpa Jon and Aunt Heidi came over to help him celebrate. Miles' favorite part of the evening was a riveting game of "guess which dinosaur I am." Miles would describe different dinosaurs in incredible detail and act out how that dinosaur would walk. The adults in the room just sat around feeling pretty foolish when we had to pull out Miles' dinosaur encyclopedia to even begin to make any guesses. :)

Miles is a real treat to be around. I am so proud of the young man that he is becoming - smart, polite, funny and compassionate. Miles told me now that he is five years old he gets to make all of his own decisions. Oh boy. . . .

Happy Birthday Miles! We love you!

Tub Time

The other night as Scott was getting the bath ready for the boys, Tate decided he just couldn't wait to jump in and play with all of the toys. He opted out of removing his clothes and hopped in fully dressed. I have to admit it was pretty funny, and from the look on his face you can tell that he was having a blast. My little Tate always keeps us on our toes.:)

Fun Field Trips

The past couple of months have been filled with some great adventures and we have kept busy exploring fun places around the city. Miles went on three recent field trips with his preschool class, and I was privileged to be able to tag along. First up, we hit Tracy Aviary.

The second field trip involved a tour of the local fire station.

The third field trip took us to a fabulous pumpkin patch in Orem.

We also did our annual Gardner Village visit with friends to see the Witch Festival.

Other recent events include Miles having another karate test. At one of his practices, they let him use the microphone, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Tate got to join in for some games and had an absolute blast running around with the big kids.

Here is Miles in all of his sparring gear.

And here is Miles with his new green bandanna and eagle patch.

My parents were in town for a brief visit and to help my sister move into her new apartment. She lives just a short drive from me now and I am already enjoying having family so close. It was a crazy weekend getting her moved in, but alas she is finally settled. The boys were in heaven with all of the attention they received and had a fun time.

They were particularly helpful in the moving process.:)

In addition to all of our fun outings, we also spent a little quality time at home. Miles convinced us that we needed to purchase Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and so we enjoyed a fun movie and popcorn night. The boys were all really into the movie. Check out their focus.
